SAA Bowling Team Wins Region Title-Again!

Our SAA Bowlers have made history completing back-to-back undefeated seasons with back-to-back region championships! Senior Dylan Jeanfreau also won the individual regional title. The team compiled a 10-0 record and can brag that 4 of the 8 top bowlers in the state, who will all compete at the state individual championships, are from SAA!

Coach Matt Burkhead has been coaching our Stars for eight years. He shared, “This team's resilience to win and overcome anything in their way sets them apart from any team in the state. The family-like culture we have created allows the girls to support each other during wins, losses, bad games, or missed opportunities. I enjoyed every moment of this season! The girls set records, cried tears, and held their trophy high; I am happy I was able to be a part of history in the making!” 

Throughout the season the Stars racked up big wins over rivals St. Mary’s, Hutchison and Briarcrest. But one of Coach Burkhead’s favorite moments was the team’s win against St. Benedict by the largest deficit a team has achieved over the eagles since he started coaching. In that same match, several Stars also set personal records. His “ultimate" favorite moment of the season was Dylan’s regional individual win, adding: “She is my first ever bowler to win the title since I have been coaching!”

Coach Burkhead is known on campus for his highly entertaining and spirited updates to faculty and staff after each match. Here is an example-think Greatest Showman as you read:

Ladies and gents this is the moment you’ve waited for (woah)

The saints came marching, but fell short once more (woah)

The stars were ready, full of fierce grit and grind (woah) 

And led by Dylan, we left the saints far behind (woah) 

One shot a time, we continue to climb

And make good shots on every dime

Don't come into our house thinking you will win

We have Maren and many waiting in the bullpen

Led by spares and strikes, we gave them a big bruise

Time to move on, the saints are old news.
