11 Dec, 2024

Congratulations to St. Agnes Academy Senior Emma Mungle who was named The Germantown Education Commission Youth Excellence Award recipient for the month of December! This award recognizes a high school senior who has made a significant difference in their own life, the lives of others, the school they attend and/or the Germantown community. Emma was recognized on Monday, December 9, at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Meeting.

A student at SAA since pre-kindergarten, Emma is energetic, enthusiastic, and highly involved. Throughout high school she has immersed herself in academics, extracurricular activities and organizations, and service. Known for her school spirit, Emma has served her class as Spirit Week Coordinator all four years and is a member of the Pep Club.

Academically, Emma has a 4.44 cumulative GPA throughout six semesters. She has completed six AP courses and 2 dual enrollment courses, as well as numerous honors level courses. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society.

Emma has competed for the Stars in swimming, tennis and volleyball all four years of high school. She received the Scholar Athlete Award and the Coach’s Award in both volleyball and swimming. Emma currently serves as President of our student-led Athletic Council.

Emma shared, “I am very involved in sports, and they are important to me because I build relationships with my teammates and coaches outside of the academic aspect of school. I also learned values and lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”

A leader on campus, Emma is a member of the inaugural College Counseling Advisory Committee (CCAC), helping to engage underclassmen in the college decision process. She is a member of the National Beta Club, Key Club, Forever Friends Club and Ducks Unlimited Club. Emma serves the St. Agnes community as a Student Ambassador, Peer Mentor, and Retreat Leader.

Emma is a member of the St. Louis Youth Group. She volunteers at Madonna Learning Center and the Memphis Joy Prom for special needs members of the community.

In her nomination for the Youth Excellence Award, Dr. Kathy Williamson wrote, “As for Emma’s overall character, I find her to be an industrious student, a well-rounded individual, and a promising scholar. I am especially struck by her personal maturity and her capacity to balance numerous extracurricular interests with a rigorous academic schedule.”

As a junior, Emma served the SAA-SDS Communications Department as a Student Contributor, and she currently serves as Social Media Manager for the Journalism class. In college, she plans to major in Journalism, with a specific focus on Sports Media.

Youth Excellence Award winners receive a $100 cash prize and a small trophy. Monthly winners are invited to apply for the Germantown Youth Excellence Scholarship to be announced at the Annual Education Celebration in April.
