Meet Our Lower School SGA Chaplains

19 Feb, 2025
The role of the Student Government Association Chaplain is vital to building a sense of community in the Lower School of St. Agnes Academy and St. Dominic School. They help fellow students connect with their faith and they lead them in various campus activities and service projects.
Our current Lower School SGA Chaplains, Brooke Clayburn (7th) and Griffin Kenney (8th), are great examples of student leaders. According to Amy Cluck, Lower School SGA sponsor, “Our SGA chaplains, Brooke and Griffin, encourage empathy and kindness among their peers and lead by example, offering Christ-like positive role models for our younger students in the SAA-SDS community.”
We asked Brooke and Griffin a few questions so we could get to know them a little better:
How long have you been a student at SAA-SDS?
Brooke: This school year marks my third year at SAA.
Griffin: This is my 11th year at SDS.
Why did you want to become an SGA Chaplain?
Brooke: It's really important to me to be an SGA Chaplain because I can help lead my peers to Jesus.
Griffin: It was important to me to become an SGA Chaplain because I wanted to spread prayer through our school community.
What are your goals for the SGA Chaplain role this year?
Brooke: My goal is to help others be aware of Jesus and to remind them that he is the centerpiece to every puzzle in our lives.
Griffin: I want to encourage people to enjoy the few minutes it takes to pray during the day.
You have led several service projects and community events this year. Which one was your favorite and why?
Brooke: I really enjoyed selling Val-O-Grams to raise money for the Vincent De Paul Society. It was very fun, and I looked forward to it.
Griffin: I enjoy getting to lead the prayer and pledge before school assemblies, because the whole school is together, and for a few minutes they are in unison praying.
Your role as Chaplain is so important! Out of the four Dominican Pillars, your role as Chaplain involves three of them-Prayer, Community and Service. Which one of those do you think impacts you the most every day?
Brooke: I feel that prayer impacts me the most every day because prayer has the power to change everything. Through prayer you get to talk to God about anything and everything that's on your mind. It brings peace and comfort to my heart.
Griffin: I think the Pillar of Community impacts me most every day, because we, as a school, are a great community.
What other activities (at school or outside of school) are you involved in?
Brooke: I’m involved in multiple sports, theatre performances, and the choir.
Griffin: I play football and basketball, and I am a member of the Beta Club.
Both Brooke and Griffin plan to pursue other leadership roles in the future. We look forward to the great things they will accomplish in support of their fellow students!
