Meet the Lower School St. Agnes and St. Dominic SGA Presidents

The 2024-2025 Lower School SGA Presidents Reagan Williams and Cole Tidwell

18 Sep, 2024

Elected by their peers, the Lower School St. Agnes and St. Dominic SGA Presidents lead the student body by example. They are excellent role models-of moral character, academic integrity and leadership ability. We recently asked newly elected Presidents Reagan Williams (SAA 8) and Cole Tidwell (SDS 8) a few questions to get to know them a little better, and this is what they had to say.

Why did you want to be SGA president?

Reagan: I wanted to be SGA president so I could make a difference within our school. I hope to be able to create fundraisers and other fun activities within our school community. I want people to be able to feel like they can talk about anything-and if they needed something brought up, they can trust me to follow through.

Cole: Ever since I joined St. Dominic, I knew I wanted to be a leader for my school. The brotherhood is so strong here, and I knew I wanted to make it stronger. My dad, St. Dominic Class of 1992, and my older brother, St. Dominic Class of 2021, were both SGA Presidents of their classes, and I felt I could carry on the legacy.

What did it mean to you to have the support of your classmates?

Reagan: It meant so much to me to have the support of my classmates, especially knowing that there were so many amazing candidates. I am grateful for everyone that put their trust in me to take part in this leadership role and I promise that I won't let them down.

Cole: To have the support of my peers means everything to me. Knowing that they trust in me to be a student leader of our school truly gives me much encouragement to be my best.

What are your goals as SGA president?

Reagan: My goal as SGA president is to make everyone feel included and heard. I also want to create a good school environment for both the students and faculty, whether that means more enjoyable activities or fundraisers to help support those in need.

Cole: As SGA President, I plan to overall make the school a better place. I know that is a bold statement, but truly I believe I can make this year a very exciting, entertaining, and delightful year, strengthening our brotherhood every day.

Do you think you will pursue leadership roles in high school?

Reagan: I will definitely be pursuing leadership roles in high school. I want to continue growing my leadership skills and playing an active part in my school.

Cole: I hope to pursue leadership roles in high school. Next year, I plan to attend Christian Brothers High School, and it is a major goal of mine to become part of the Brothers Leadership Council.

What is your favorite class and why?

Reagan: My favorite class is probably science. I love doing labs and I enjoy learning more about them. I like that science class challenges me, but I am still able to comprehend all the information.

Cole: My favorite class at St. Dominic currently is American History. History is without a doubt one of the most challenging classes. I enjoy the class because we learn so much every day, absorbing lots of new information every week. Mr. Goff, our teacher, pushes my peers and me to become better students and people every day.

What is your favorite thing about the school?

Reagan: My favorite thing about SAA-SDS is the students and the teachers. I always know I can count on my peers to help me if I am struggling, and my teachers are always there for me when I need them. I love knowing someone is there for me even if I don't always realize it.

Cole: My favorite thing about St. Dominic is the strength of our brotherhood. There is always someone you can go to and ask for help if it is needed.

How do you think junior high is preparing you for high school?

Reagan:  I think junior high greatly prepares us for high school. Our classes challenge us, like high school classes will. We also learn what study techniques work well for us, which we can use all throughout school. Our teachers help us out when we need it but will also encourage us to figure things out on our own, so we learn and are better prepared for high school.

Cole: I believe junior high prepares you for high school by the freedom it gives you, while also having the rules enforced. It gives you a feel for going to classes on your own and not relying on a teacher for everything, while also knowing that you have responsibility to be on your best behavior and always do the right thing.

What other activities are you involved in?

Reagan: Within the school, I am involved in SAA-SDS cheerleading and the Junior Beta Club. Outside of school, I am involved in Memphis Pride All Star Cheer whether it is practices, competitions, or classes.

Cole: This year, I am a member of our Junior High Beta Club, a student ambassador, and hoping to be chosen for our eighth grade Peer Ministry Team. I am also a part of our school football and basketball programs. Outside of school, I play lacrosse for the Brothers Lacrosse Club and the Memphis Lacrosse Academy, and I also intend on joining the St. Louis Youth Group Organization.
