Youth Excellence Awards Go to Two St. Agnes Students
07 Dec, 2022
Congratulations to St. Agnes Seniors Taylor Warne and Brittain Brewer who received The Germantown Education Commission Youth Excellence Award for the months of October and November respectively. This award recognizes high school seniors who have made a significant difference in his/her own life, the lives of others, the school he/she attends and the Germantown community. Both girls were honored for their achievement at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Meetings in the City of Germantown.
Taylor was recognized by the Germantown Commission as a dedicated student who balances academic achievements and extracurricular activities with maturity, leadership, and a high regard for her fellow students.
Taylor has taken a rigorous load of classes, including eight AP courses, and holds a 4.8 cumulative GPA. She is also a gifted artist, serving as a staff member of Calliope, the Upper School art and literary magazine. In her nomination, Upper School art teacher Ginny Crittenton described Taylor as “a collaborative team player who can not only organize and encourage the staff, but also inspire with her contagious enthusiasm and excitement for the creative process. Not only does she excel at anything she undertakes, but she also lifts those around her, encouraging them and helping them reach the same levels of success.”
Additionally, Taylor serves as the Stage Manager for the SAA Theatre Department and as the Business Manager for the senior class. In all of her extracurricular roles, she collaborates and contributes innovative and strategic thinking. It is also evident that she sincerely believes in giving back to the community, the church, and her school.
Brittain was recognized by the Germantown Commission as a dynamic, energetic, and optimistic student who immerses herself in all aspects of student life. At any given time, she can be found engaging in discourse in class, guiding admission tours, serving as a teacher assistant, coordinating senior class events, tutoring students in world language lab, and serving her school and community in many other ways.
Brittain is a Peer Mentor, she served as the Freshman Student Orientation Coordinator, and is the Senior Event Coordinator for her class. In her nomination for the Youth Excellence Award Dr. Kathy Williamson wrote, "Brittain handled the enormous responsibility of FSO coordinator superbly as she delegated tasks, planned events and assisted in organizing the event. This experience helped her to realize her true leadership potential. She is dedicated to serving her class in the most efficient way and improving all aspects of senior activities."
Brittain holds a 4.7 cumulative GPA in a rigorous course of study. Her passion is English Literature and writing, and last summer, she participated in the Rhodes College Summer Writing Institute.
