National Honor Society Inductions for the Class of 2023
28 Sep, 2022
Forty-one members of the Class of 2023 were celebrated as they were formally inducted into the Aquinas Chapter of the National Honor Society. Selection for membership in the National Honor Society is the pinnacle of a student’s achievements in high school. It is both a public recognition of accomplishment and a private commitment to continued excellence on the part of the new members.
Students who attain a cumulative GPA of 3.67 or higher over six semesters are eligible for membership in our chapter. Membership is based upon the following qualities:
SCHOLARSHIP means commitment to learning, which continues even when formal education ends. Knowledge is the one element in life that leads us to the highest success.
SERVICE is the willingness to work for the benefit of those in need, without monetary compensation or recognition. The National Honor Society member is committed to the idea of volunteering her time and ability to the creation of a better tomorrow.
LEADERSHIP is the willingness to yield one’s personal interests for the interest of others. A leader takes initiative in class and in activities. A leader helps others attain their objectives. A leader has self-confidence and will go forward when others hesitate.
CHARACTER is the force within each person that distinguishes her from others. By demonstrating respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, and caring, we achieve character.
Students who qualify academically submit a written application in which they reflect on the qualities for membership and how they have demonstrated these during their time in the Upper School. These are a few excerpts from their applications:
“Scholarship to me is more than grades, it is finding the joy in learning and using that joy to inspire others. The last four years have strengthened my work ethic and prepared me for my future.”
“As a leader, I have learned to reserve strong emotions, listen to others intently and focus on explaining why.”
“I leave service with a smile on my face. I have always been told that one kind act can benefit someone forever, and I hold that dear to my heart because everyone deserves to smile.”
