Our Coordinator of Campus Safety and Athletic Trainer, Katie Perkins, has been a member of the SAA-SDS community since 2012. Her daughter Elizabeth is a third grader at SAA.

As a certified athletic trainer Mrs. Perkins works to ensure that St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School athletes receive the highest quality orthopedic care. This year, Mrs. Perkins has also worked side by side with school nurse, Sandra Miller, to navigate the school through an extremely challenging year.

Please take a moment to get to know Mrs. Perkins a little better:

How would you describe your role at the school?

It is very multi-faceted position. I oversee health-related protocols and incidents on campus, as well as providing support to our athletes through training and injury prevention. The past year has been a roller coaster, with so many challenges.  I am proud that we have done what we needed to do to open our doors and keep our school moving forward.

What do you hope to accomplish in your role?

I want to do everything I can to keep our campus as safe as possible for our students and staff. I want to find unique ways of doing things, things we have never thought of or tried before.

What do you enjoy most about working at SAA-SDS?

I am happy to play a role in keeping everyone safe on campus-this place is my family! I enjoy caring for others and I love this community that I work in.

What life lesson would you like our students to learn?

I want everyone to understand the importance of self-care. The busyness of life can overtake you. Be sure you take a step back and care for yourself-mentally, physically and spiritually. Also, I believe in being a lifelong learner.  Make yourself knowledgeable! I am always looking for new evaluation and training techniques and ways to keep our community safe.

Which of Dominican Pillars-study, community, prayer, and service-do you feel are most supported by your role at the school?

Everything I try to do is in support of our community, and I believe I am truly here to serve our staff and our families. I also believe strongly in the power of prayer and study (knowledge!)

What are you grateful for?

I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve in this role as Coordinator of Campus Safety. It comes back to being a lifelong learner- this role has given me the chance to really expand my knowledge base. I am also grateful that we have successfully mitigated the risks facing us over the past year and were able to bring the students back into this loving environment. We overcame our fears to continue to educate our kids.

What are your interests outside of school? What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about my family and athletics/sports of all kinds. I like to stay very involved in my church, by teaching Sunday school and coaching, or in any way they need me to serve.
